I want to first illustrate that this an opinion, and it it MY take on the subject. Read it if you want, but I don't care how you take it.
People take the "Seven Deadly Sins" as serious as they take American Idol. No one believes in sin, or karma for that matter. We all walk around like nothing can ever hurt us, and we're extremely wrong.
Sin #1: Lust.
This usually occurs when someone wants something, or someone extremely much. Sexual temptations are usually the greatest reason for lust. It could lead to cheating, affairs, hatred, and rage (wrath). Lust is has many factors. Temptatio of any sort can trigger lust, both sexually and mentally. Someone who is curious also experieces lust. They desire to try something, then they lustfully want it. Jealousy, alcohol, sadness, guilt, and eve extreme happiness could occur from, or because of lust. It's simply a lack of self-control. Which is why you usually hear the excuse "I couldn't control myself, it just happened." You can't expect lust to be that deadly, could you? it's not as deadly as others, but it does come with the burden of guilt and even Karma. So watch out next time you look at someone, they might be your sin.
Sin #2: Gluttony.
I guess you can say two-thirds of the United States commit this sin everyday. People eat, alot. With gluttony, it's the over-consumption of food. It is literally a DEADLY sin. People die everyday of obesity, because they refuse to fix how they eat. Christians believe that it isn't fair to the "needy" families for once person to over-consume. These days, we have cheap fastfood that solves that issue. It used to be a sign of status, or wealth. People took pride in the amount of food they had. These days, it shows no self-control, and lack of consideration for one's body. This is a sin alot of people face, and they don't even know it.
Sin #3: Greed.
Greed closely ties in with lust and gluttoy; too much of one thing. Wealth, status, or power of any sort is greed in a nutshell. Usually greedy people only care about themself, and almost never have any form of empathy for others. They want to make themselves better, and only them. They will reduce themselves to betrayal, and even treason if it will help them in the immediate future. Greed is a huge carrier of Karma. One day, they won't have the things they have now, and they will feel the same feelings that person who asked for a dollar felt: rejection and sadness.
Sin #4: Sloth.
Lazy. Best word to describe this sin. People who are sloth usually have talents or "gifts", and don't show them. This sin isn't as "deadly" as others, mainly because eveyone is a little lazy. hence the gluttony sin previously stated, if you get the connection. Sloth usually ties in with someone ot doing things for themselves either. Modern day things turn into chores, and they refuse to do them. Lazy people are half the population; teenagers. I'll admit, I am a lazy teenager. I'm usually this way when I know I have nothing to do. Yes, I get lazy on other occasions, but rarely just to be lazy. Sin or not a sin, everyone is a little sloth.
Sin #5: Wrath.
Envy is closely related sin. Someone who experiences wrath is usually filled with rage. They have uncontrollable feelings and actios towards certain events. Violence is a huge occurence. Ever watch the news, I mean REALLY watch it? We all have wrath, we only usually hear it when it comes to serial killers and rapists. Wrath is also a factor of chronic depression. No one gets that mad for no apparent reason, ever. "Love of justice perverted to revenge and spite."-Dante. Perfect quote, because wrath is something that went from being amazing, to something terrible.
Sin #6: Envy.
Lust and greed also tie into this sin. Envious people want what others worked for. They want something/ someone that someone already has, at all costs. I guess it could be tied to wrath as well, as a result of wanting something that badly. Dante also stated that it is "a desire to deprive men of theirs". Meaing they want what they want, now. Envy is also known as the "green eyed monster". Girls feel this when other girls take the guy they want, job, or even friendship. It's probably my favorite sin, only because it ties into jealousy, which everyone has at some point in time.
Sin #7: Pride.
You're full of yourself with this sin. This is a severe sin to commit, only because it can lead to a life of pure misery. Yes, you will make people extremely envious of you, but do you really want to have o one in your life because of it? Didn't think so. You want to be "better" than everyone when you have too much pride. People who are like this don't normally see someone's achievements. They look passed them, and focus on theirs. These people are normally extremely egotistical, heartless, and crude. They want everyone to see them, and no one else.
Well, as we can tell these sins aren't as simple as you thought. People deal with these everyday. I do, and you do as well. So stop walkign around like you own the place, and realize your actions. Remember Karma's catchphrase: "What comes around, goes around".
